The Story Behind The Art
Controlled Chaos
I am so exited to share a new piece that is helping to build the Natura Chaos series I am currently exploring. What does this series mean to me, where did the name come from, and what does the style evoke to you?
As you all know, I am a Mountain West-based abstract expressionist painter deeply informed by the grand scale, raw textures, and atmospheric shifts of the natural landscape I live in and travel to. I am also a new mother and only in the past six months or so have really found out what that means to me in my art practice. It has taken time to re-discover myself within the needs of someone else, which is confusing but beautiful. This is where the title of this series comes from, and what the essence is. I am deeply moved and connected to nature, finding inspiration in both the beauty and decay, the soft and the harsh, the life and the chaos. We need them both, and as a mother I experience a similar push and pull with life. In this series you will find thick and aggressive gestures contrasted by oil pastel line work and paint dripping down the canvas. I look forward to exploring this series and the story it is helping me tell.
Cheers,
Elisa
